Dick's Bibliography
In December 1969, Dick Fine took on what became a nightmare assignment – overseeing the medical care for the disastrous Rolling Stones concert at Altamont.
Early Life
Richard Fine was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. His mother, Sylvia Miller Fine, was of Ukrainian/Russian/Lithuanian Jewish descent, and his father, Arthur Fine, was of German Jewish descent.
Letter from Margot Kushel
Please forgive my delay in writing. You have all been very much on my mind these last few weeks, as has of course, Dick. I hope that during these difficult days and weeks you have been surrounded by love and by all the amazing memories of Dick’s love for you, and for life.
Moving to San Francisco
Dick knew even before he finished medical school that he would leave the East Coast for California.
Inverness And Travel Destinations
Dick and Kathleen also shared a house in Inverness, California where they kept a sailboat, the Shiksa, with which he took many residents sailing after their grueling tours of duty on the hospital wards.
Late Life
In December 2014 the doctor himself was diagnosed with late stage cancer, which still didn’t prevent him from walking Sarah down the aisle at her wedding to Sergio Valentini in Buenos Aires in March 2015.
About
Dick and I met at San Francisco General, when I, a new secretary, arrived to share an office with his secretary. She and I both had Master’s degrees in Creative Writing. Typically overqualified secretaries. Dick broke his own rule about not dating anyone from the hospital when one afternoon he offered me a ride home on his motorcycle.
We went on to marry, have twins and he mortgaged his house to put me through law school.
