(June 6, 1940 - November 10, 2015)
Richard H. Fine was an American physician who practiced primary care internal medicine, trained house staff, and administered programs and clinics as a Clinical Professor of Medicine on the full-time faculty of the University of California Medical Center’s San Francisco General Hospital campus.
Dick always wanted to be a doctor. He made medical history receiving penicillin as a child in Cincinnati, and then almost blew himself up experimenting with his chemistry set.
Learn how in San Francisco and beyond, he combined medicine and politics in a totally new way, to blow up old ideas and help people who thought they were powerless.
Hear directly from some of the doctors he mentored, how Dick influenced their outlook on medicine and its role in public policy.
My journey with Dick Fine was a wild ride, much of it on the back of a 1974 BMW R75 motorcycle. We shared a love for our twin daughters and San Francisco General Hospital. Everything was possible with Dick. With the people and principles that mattered to him, the only option was yes. He encircled life and me in a warm embrace. This website shows some of the people, places and events of the expansive life of Dick Fine.
